Note 7: Local Authorities are recommended to use SCANNER technologies to report the information in these tables.
Where figures have been provided by a local authority using alternative methods, they are flagged (in notes and in grey highlights) as they are not directly comparable to SCANNER figures. Caution should be taken when comparing these figures to other Local Authorities.
Alternative technologies are not restricted by the SCANNER accreditation, and can therefore develop over time. This may account for some of the change seen in the percentage red over time for those using alternative technologies, so further caution is advised when comparing local authorities data year on year.
The use of different technologies is increasing over time and DfT are running a Data Standard exercise to make different survey methods more comparable. The Data Standard was published in September 2024.
